Open Monumentendag - 13 September 2008

OMD is becoming itself a monument. Many no doubt remember the first European Heritage Day as if it was yesterday. But it was soon 20 years ago, that first Sunday - 10 September 1989 - which Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia joined the call by the Council of Europe.

Wine and Fruit Celebration - 20 Septemper 2008

Borgloon is the fruitstad par excellence thanks to the biennial Loonse wine and the Loonse Fruitfeesten (see pictures), but especially for the magnificent victory in the Monumentenstrijd for the Stoomstroopfabriek.

The beautiful site of the old syrup factory Wijnants-Groenendael, since 1999 a protected monument, was approved by the city Borgloon purchased and is sponsored by European subsidies renovated. There is room for there to include in a fruit museum to accommodate. Then, it is wine made and there may be a tavern and a shop with local produce.
